We envision easier access to clean, easily identifiable Paleo foods, and the growth of a Paleo community formidable enough to effectuate political, medical, and environmental changes.
We pursue our mission to positively impact our environment, animal health, and human health by selectively certifying products in alignment with our organizational goals, and promote those companies to our community, and retailers.
Established in January, 2010, The Paleo Foundation is a goal-oriented, vision-driven organization offering independent verification for Paleo products, holding a set of standards that the Paleo Community expects. We are the World’s very first, most established, and official independent verifier of Paleo products for the Paleo Movement.
Our Seal of Approval
Independent Consumer Reports suggest that the growing skepticism around food labels had led health-seeking consumers to rely on third party certifications which validate products that are aligned with their personal eating philoshophies, or “Food Tribes.” (Pineapple Collective 2016 Health and Wellness).
Products bearing the Certified Paleo label indicate to Paleo “Food Tribalists” that not only is the product is aligned with their food values, but that it has also been independently verified by The Paleo Foundation to assuage concerns regarding mislabeling practices.
In 2015, Industry Trendwatcher SPINS reported an astounding 466% increase in Paleo and Gluten Free Certified Products, and a 79.9% increase in Paleo positioned products — the fastest growth in natural foods trends— in 2016. Independent Trend Watcher Pineapple Collective in Canada reported a 50% increase in Paleo Product sales, and suggests that the fastest growing emerging product claims include Fair Trade, and Certified Paleo.
The Nutrition Business Journal’s (NBJ) 2015 Special Diets Report suggested that “We have become a nation of Food Tribes” and that “Many are motivated not just by a desire to lose weight but, rather, a new lifestyle inextricably linked with their social circles and stances on environmental and animal welfare issues.” The motivations of various food tribes range from health to emotions to ethics, but also points to the concept of personal identity. The NBJ report also suggests that as many as 3 million people in the US identify as ‘Paleo’, and have had a profound influence on industry trends and demand. Although food choices are complex, products targeted to specific “food tribes” and identities are “rich with opportunities for brands who are clear about whom they are serving and why” according to NBJ.
According to Pineapple Collective 2016 Health and Wellness guide, skepticism around food labels has led health-seeking consumers to rely on third party certifications which validate products that are aligned with their personal eating philosophies, or “Food Tribes.”
Products bearing the Certified Paleo label indicate to Paleo “Food Tribalists” that not only is the product is aligned with their food values, but that it has also been independently verified by the Paleo Movement’s first and oldest certification organization, The Paleo Foundation, to assuage concerns regarding mislabeling practices. For producers who wish to avoid re-branding to target a specific segment of the Paleo Food Tribe, Paleo Certification bridges the gap to indicate to a consumer that the product is aligned with their food philosophy.
The Paleo Foundation is the world’s only third-party for verification for Paleo products. Operating internationally, the Paleo Foundation’s certification programs ensure that products have been comprehensively evaluated by an independent party for compliance with a standard developed by industry experts.
Because the Paleo Foundation has no stakeholders or investors, it does not have pressures from outside financial interests, resulting in enhanced program integrity.
