Lindsay Binnie, Founder of Binnie's Coconut Butter

I made Binnie's Coconut Butter for my family and why we make it for you.
More plants. More healthy fats. Less sugar.
Since founding Binnie's Coconut Butter in 2014 it's been a joy to share this delicious and nutritious spread with others. We love helping make families healthier!

...but let's back up a bit.

We've all heard it before. Health is directly related to diet. We are what we eat.

I thought it was a cute saying, but never fully bought into it. But then, the perfect storm of life events forced me to test that theory head on.

First, I became a mom and was always wondering if diet really was as important as some said. I mean, could it really be that big of a deal? Preservatives were in most of what we were eating at the time, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something wrong about that.

And then out of nowhere I suddenly started having allergy symptoms. I almost got rid of our mattress and our dog, thinking they were the cause, until I realized it was actually food sensitivities. My body was finally fed up with all of the pretend food I was eating and was rebelling in full force.

At about that same time we almost lost someone we love to an autoimmune disease and that led us to more information on how good nutrition can heal us from the inside out.

finally started paying attention and committed to finding better ways to nourish my family and myself.

My first creation was kale chips. I'll keep this short. They didn't go over well.

Then I came across an article about coconut butter and realized this was a spread my kids (well, all of us really) could get into. I knew my kids wouldn't eat it plain, so I added some flavors and then we had a new problem. Prying the jars out of their little hands. They were pretty much instantly addicted!

We hope you love Binnie Butter as much as we do.

Thank you for your support!

I've heard of coconut oil, but what is coconut butter?

Answer: Coconut butter is made from shredded coconut or the meat of the coconut. Similar to peanut butter, we use Binnie's Coconut Butter as a superfood spread on toast, smoothies, pancakes, waffles, fruit, oatmeal, sandwiches or even on potatoes!

Why is coconut butter healthy for me?

Answer: Coconut is full of medium chain triglycerides which is saturated fat that's good for you! It's metabolized in the liver and used up as energy right away while keeping you full and satisfied for longer. Coconut is classified as a "superfood" and has a wide range of benefits from stimulating the metabolism to improving brain function. It even contains lauric acid which kills bacteria and can ward off infections in the body. So yeah, we agree with the "superfood" thing.

Are your ingredients organic?

Answer: Yes! All of our ingredients are organic and we will be officially certified organic in the next month! Organic certification is important to us because we want our customers to know that we have taken great care and time to source premium ingredients to help facilitate the health of others and to participate in the real food movement that is going on right now in our industry!

Are your coconut butters gluten free?

Answer: Yes! Our coconut butters are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, organic, non GMO, and conducive to the paleo and ketogenic diet. We produce our coconut butters in a and peanut free facility, however there ARE tree nuts in the facility we produce. Our products are produced on shared equipment and is cleaned thoroughly between production runs.

I thought you used agave as your sweetener. Now I see that it's coconut syrup. Why the switch?

Answer: After much deliberation and research, we realized that coconut syrup is a better fit for our product because of its nutritional value. Coconut syrup has trace minerals and is low glycemic. Agave nectar is very high in fructose so we weren't comfortable with how hard the body was having to work to process that ingredient. Always striving to be better and to listen to our customers, we made the switch!

Your coconut butters are easier to spread than others. Why?

Answer: So glad you asked! We work hard in production to create a coconut butter that is easy to spread. Even though you will taste the shredded coconut in there, it should still be a spreadable consistency because we strive to be our best! We don't want you to have to heat it (and no need to refrigerate, even after opening!) so storing and serving our coconut butters at room temperature is where they perform best. Try not to let it get too hot or it will completely melt and then solidify again as it cools, adversely affecting that spreadable consistency. You can still eat it, it will just be harder to get out of the jar after solidifying.

So, what do I put Binnie Butter on?

Answer: You can get really creative with this! We love it on toast, oatmeal, crackers, apples, peaches, strawberries, (any fruit, really) yogurt, on sweet potatoes or even on sweet corn! We also like to put the vanilla on chicken or fish, and the cinnamon on a pork chop. Shake things up for dinner! About Us :

Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets.  Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.

100% of  Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications.  We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.

Certified Paleo logo Certified Paleo:

Each certification program has a different set of standards.  Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products.  Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified LogoGrain-Free Gluten-Free:

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues.  All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.

Keto Certified LogoKeto Certified:

The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation.  Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.

The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
