Muffin Revolution

Muffin Revolution was dreamed up while rock climbing in Berkeley. As friends from cooking school, and fellow climbers, co-founders Marirose and Christy wanted a nutritious meal that they could have after a climb or throw in a backpack:  a meal in a muffin.

What makes our muffins so revolutionary?  Our muffins are GRAIN-FREE, so instead of using rice or wheat flour, our “flour” is composed of 100% almond meal and/or coconut. And you’ll find no refined sugar in these nutritious gems, instead we use dates, straight from mother earth.  We also add an Omega-3 boost of chia or hemp seeds. When you eat our muffins, you are eating real food, packed with vitamins, minerals, and heart-healthy fats.  And we think that’s pretty revolutionary!

NO FLOUR. Just NUTS. Whole, ground almonds stand-in for the “flour”.

Sweetened with DATES.  Dates are high in fiber and have a lower glycemic index than sugar. Plus, they’re delicious.

Packed with FRUIT & VEGGIES.  Apples, Bananas, Blueberries, Carrots, Cherries, Oranges & Yams, oh my!

OMEGA-3 Boost. Flax, chia and hemp depending on the muffin.

HIGH-PROTEIN.  More eggs, nuts and seeds than other muffins. *except 24 Carrot Gold which does not contain eggs.

NO FILLERS. NO ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS. No soy, corn, additives or preservatives.

Marirose Piciucco & Christy Kovacs

EAT GOOD. Our story.

Born in Berkeley and raised in Richmond, Muffin Revolution is a women-owned business with a drive to change the way people eat. While rock climbing, Marirose and Christy developed the idea of adding a meal into a muffin that could be eaten on-the-go. After months of recipe development in Marirose's Berkeley kitchen, the climbing gym became their first account. From those humble beginnings, a Revolution was born. Muffin Revolution's facility is now located in Richmond, just down the street from the Rosie the Riveter Museum, a constant reminder that women can get it done.

FEEL GOOD. Our mission.

Using the muffin as a vessel, Muffin Revolution provides a compact, convenient, and creative way to eat real food.

DO GOOD. Our vision.

When we feel good, we want to do good, whether that means doing good for our bodies and making smart, healthy decisions, or whether that means doing good for our friends, our neighborhood, or our planet. Doing good feels good. And eating good helps us feel good, which helps us do good. It's all a beautiful cycle of GOOD.

Muffin Revolution wants to do good by making it easier for people to eat good, so they can feel good. Muffin Revolution's vision is to drive change in the muffin category by making it more than just a breakfast. Through it’s sweet, savory, paleo & kid-friendly product lines, Muffin Revolution can be a meal – anytime, anywhere. Be the change you want to see, and Muffin Revolution will provide the love.

Prior to becoming a muffin maven, Marirose Piciucco practiced immigration law, representing asylum seekers and immigrants in deportation proceedings. Today, when Marirose is not busy growing the company, she is busy with The Ring Project, a non-profit organization that she founded, that provides law school and medical school scholarships to deserving women in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

When Christy Kovacs isn't being a muffin boss, you can find her weaving photographs in her art studio or spending time with her bagel boss boyfriend, creator of Baron Baking. Check out her woven photographs on her website or check out Vessel Gallery if they have one of her pieces up in a current show.

Are your muffins gluten-free?

Answer: Our muffins are Certified Gluten-Free by the Celiac Support Association Recognition Seal Program, the first program in the United States to recognize companies that meet the strictest criteria of gluten-free --i.e. free of the toxic amino acid sequences in wheat, barley, rye and common oats, as well as their crosses and derivatives. The CSA certification is designed exclusively for products which are appropriate for a medically prescribed celiac diet.

Do the muffins freeze well?

Answer: Our muffins freeze wonderfully! Put the muffins in a tightly sealed ziploc bag and freeze for up to one year. A ziploc bag is the best insurance against freezer burn and funky freezer smells infiltrating your muffins. When you take a muffin out of the freezer, let it thaw in the fridge overnight OR microwave for 45-60 sec OR bake in a 225 degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Some of our customers take a frozen muffin to work, or put a frozen muffin in their child's lunchbox, and by lunchtime, their muffin has thawed!

What is the shelf-life of your muffins?

Answer: Our muffins have no preservatives and are made with REAL food, and lets be honest, real food molds or ferments over time. So we recommend refrigerating the muffins immediately and eating them within 7 days. Any muffins that you know will not be eaten within the next couple days should be frozen as soon as possible in a ziploc bag.

Are your ingredients locally sourced?

Answer: Our almond meal and almond butter are sourced from nearby farms in Modesto, CA and our dates come from Desert Valley, east of Los Angeles.

Do you ship your muffins?

Answer: We are currently testing this process, although it seems for now to be prohibitively expensive. The muffins need to be packed with ice packs, insulated, and shipped overnight to guarantee freshness. If you really want muffins shipped just give us a call, but we recommend ordering a large amount to make it worth the shipping, which can cost $80 to ship.

What kind of chocolate chips do you use?

Answer: We use Enjoy Life chocolate chips, a 69% cacao, soy-free chip that contains only chocolate and cane sugar. It was important to us that we use a dark chocolate chip without soy lecithin, dextrose, or other additives.

Where can I find the nutrition information for your muffins?

Answer: Click on the MUFFINS tab and select the flavor of your choice. Click on either link to the nutrition info for either the smaller 4-Pack muffins sold in grocery stores or the larger single muffins sold in cafes.

About Us :

Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets.  Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.

Disclosures:

100% of  Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications.  We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.

Certified Paleo logo Certified Paleo:

Each certification program has a different set of standards.  Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products.  Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified LogoGrain-Free Gluten-Free:

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues.  All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.

Keto Certified LogoKeto Certified:

The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation.  Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.

The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
