Nyme Organics Skincare

Rest easy: we formulate everything in-house and all of our products are hand-made with love and care. That way, we control the quality and integrity of what you use on your kids. We trust these products so much we use them on our own kids. On The Spot and Oatmeal Cookie Bath got our youngest daughter through bouts of eczema on her legs and hives on her chest. Bun Glaze eased our oldest daughter through raw, red diaper rashes.

And when we say “all-natural,” we actually mean “all-natural.” This is our Care What They Wear commitment: we use only stuff you know and stuff you can pronounce, like olive oil, marshmallow, mandarin, cocoa butter and chamomile. And we will always list them here on our website and on our labels. We’ll even tell you why we use them, and exactly what they do for you and your kids.

Other companies go to great lengths to brag about their “all-natural” products. Then they use stuff like Sodium Laurylglucosides Hydroxypropylsulfonate or Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine. Know what those are? Neither did we. Turns out they’re “surfactants.” In plain English, that means “nasty little additives used to make soaps soapy.”

We won’t use surfactants, natural or not, because we don’t believe detergents of any kind are good for kids. It doesn’t matter what company says they’re “not as severe” as the ones found in adult shampoos. Gee, that’s comforting. We also certify every product is Organic and Gluten Free. All products are Certified Vegan except Bun Glaze and On The Spot (both contain organic beeswax). And all products are Certified Paleo except Oatmeal Cookie Bath.

We promise that all of our products are free of toxic chemicals like: benzene; BPA (bisphenol-A); bronopol; ceteareth 20; chlorinated or brominated solvents; chlorine; formaldehyde; hexavalent chromium; MEA (Monoethanolamine); mineral oil; optical brighteners; organohalides; organophosphate pesticides; parabens; petrolatum; phosphates; phthalates; polyethylene glycol (PEG); PVC; quaternium 15; resorcinol; SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates); sulfur oxides; TEA (Triethanolamine); triclosan. Believe it or not, that’s just a small portion of the chemicals so many baby skin care makers use and we won’t.

Last, we don’t make or recommend lotions. Manufacturers use emulsifiers and stabilizers to make them last longer on store shelves. But these ingredients can irritate your little one’s eyes, skin and lungs. That’s why we offer natural alternatives like Bun Glaze and Rubbit Oil.

Welcome to the Nyme Organics family!

Lauren & Cameron Penn, Founders of Nyme Organics

Back in 2010, we did what a ton of first-time parents do: we panicked. Then we looked high and low for the best baby stuff we could find. But when it came to skin care and clothing, the choices weren’t just mind-boggling, they were downright frustrating. What’s healthy? What’s safe? Maybe most importantly, what’s not? And why does everything that’s supposed to be so good for our kids have to cost so much?

Right before our second little girl was born, the wheels began to turn and we took matters into our own hands. We started sourcing the safest ingredients for skin care and organic, homegrown fabric for clothing. We researched the right factories and dug deep for imaginative designers. Our goals were simple and they extend way beyond us: our partners, our suppliers and our team are all in this for the same reasons:

  • Create the safest, healthiest, purest and most effective children’s skin care products on the planet.
  • Make fun, fresh, classic baby, toddler and kids clothing that’s safe, incredibly durable and families can actually afford.
  • Create valued relationships with our customers and treat them like family.
  • Contribute to the economy here at home by proudly making all of our products here in the USA.

Behind the “Nyme” Name

We brainstormed a bunch of cute, catchy names but nothing really resonated. Then one day, we were sitting with our oldest daughter and it just hit: Nyme, as in “seven, eight, Nyme.” That’s how she learned to count, and it became one of those tender little moments that make moms and dads smile. We loved it and now our family will forever be part of our brand.

nyme organicsBeing a first time parent can be scary, just ask Lauren and Cameron of Nyme Organics. Realizing that there was an insane amount of hard-to-pronounce chemicals in their children’s products, Lauren and Cameron turned to sourcing their own ingredients and creating the safest, healthiest, purest and most effective skincare products for their own children.

Jonathan: Hi Lauren, Hi Cameron!  Thank you so much for talking to us today, can you tell us some more about how being a concerned/panicky parent started you down this path to creating Nyme?

Lauren and Cameron: Thanks for the opportunity! We’re thrilled to be the first and only Certified Paleo baby skincare products! When our oldest daughter was born, she developed a really nasty rash on her neck and chest. We mean red and raw. So, we started looking for anything to take the pain away. Doctors prescribed steroid creams and ointments, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to use them. And what was on store shelves was either zinc-heavy or some sticky, greasy mess made of ingredients we didn’t recognize and couldn’t even pronounce. We decided enough is enough; there has to be a better way. That’s when we started using Bun Glaze. Within 24 hours, the rash was almost gone. 48 hours later there was no redness, no rash, no nothing. After our experience with bun glaze we started looking at soap alternatives, eczema remedies and natural moisturizers that didn’t contain junk. What followed soon after was the entire collection of safe, healthy, natural, gluten-free and now, Certified Paleo products. Funny thing is, we knew exactly what we wanted to do and what type of products we wanted to use, but for the longest time we had no name. We mean nada, zip, zilch. Then, one day we were lying on our living room floor with our then two-and-a-half year old daughter and she started counting “seven, eight…Nyme.” That’s when we thought we might have something special on our hands, and a great way to keep a little bit of family in the brand for years to come.

How effective have your products been on your kids?  Please, tell all!  What’s been the most effective so far?  What would you recommend and why to new parents?

Well, we don’t want to give the impression that our kids were guinea pigs because they’re absolutely going to hold that against us when they get older! We still use most of the products on our oldest daughter (she just turned four) and all of them on our youngest (18 months). Bun Glaze worked wonders on both kids. We don’t even worry about diaper rash anymore. Our youngest developed a case of eczema at just a few months old and it covered her legs. With a steady diet of On The Spot and Oatmeal Cookie Baths we noticed a difference almost immediately. Granted, we also started removing items from her diet to see what effect they had. But at the end of the day, the eczema was completely under control and we had a very happy baby!

I’d definitely use an all-natural product for my kids’ skincare, what makes your skincare products all-natural?  Can you tell us about how you started to find your ingredients?

Finding the right ingredients was not easy. The market for certified organic, gluten-free and fair-trade items like herbs, essential oils and other ingredients is pretty limited. What that meant was a ton of homework. But we’ve vetted every one of our suppliers, we know their business, we trust them implicitly and we’re thrilled to call all of them partners and some of them friends. As far as what’s all-natural, well…everything. There isn’t a single ingredient used in our products you won’t recognize right away because so much of what we use is plant and food-based. We’re talking olive, coconut and palm oils, cocoa and Shea butters, beeswax, mandarin, marshmallow, plantain and chamomile— all of them Certified Organic too, by the way! Why put anything on your body that you wouldn’t put in your body? And even though it’s not Paleo, we managed to find the only grower in the U.S. who farms certified gluten-free oats for our Oatmeal Cookie Bath.

Tell us a little about your experiences in the Paleo community.  How has that shaped Nyme?

For most of my (Lauren) life I struggled with my health. But I didn’t actually know they were “health issues” at the time. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my first daughter and they diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s that the pieces of the puzzle fit together. I went gluten-free initially, which helped, but I knew there was more to be done. That’s when I came across Danielle Walker’s book Against All Grain. I learned how she cured herself from her disease through the Paleo diet. Could it really be that simple? LIFE CHANGING is what it was, and that’s not an endorsement, that’s the truth. Paleo isn’t and never will be a fad for me; it’s a conscious decision that I expect will have a positive affect on me the rest of my life. My husband and I make at least 5-6 meals a week from Danielle’s books. We could also see a dramatic difference in the health of our girls through the Paleo diet. So, when we started looking into the best skincare products, we naturally wanted ones that fit the Paleo criteria. Your skin is the body’s biggest organ and anything you apply goes right into your system. So far, we’ve succeeded because the only one of our products not Certified Paleo is our Oatmeal Cookie Bath.

What Nyme product do you recommend the most?  Why?

If you backed us into a corner, probably Bun Glaze. Wow, that’s like picking your favorite kid! Mainly because of the feedback we’ve received from other parents and what we’ve seen firsthand with our own kids. It works, it works well and it works quickly. As a parent, if you can find something (anything!) that takes away the pain from your children, that’s all we need.

I’ve heard around the water cooler that diaper rash is one of the top sleep killers of new parents. Have you noticed, since first using your products on your kids, that you and them get more sleep? Any other added perks?

Diaper rash is right up there with midnight pooping and barfing. Very few things will wake a soundly sleeping baby like sore, red skin…especially if it spreads like it did with our oldest daughter. Every time they pee they’ll probably cry out for relief, usually in the form of mommy or daddy and a dry diaper. Now, the minute we see any hint of redness we take care of it immediately…and sleep very soundly.

On a little more of a personal note, what’s the scariest thing about being a parent?  What’s the hardest part of getting your kids to eat Paleo?

As a first-time parent? Making mistakes, hands down. You think you know what you are doing yet DAILY your child will make you question every parenting decision you’ve made. Just when you think you got this parenting thing down something new pops up. You also have to sift through the tons of advice you get from all sides and figure out what works for you. After that, the minute they start walking. It’s amazing how fast they move from a few awkward steps to disappearing in a flash. It’s terrifying! Eating Paleo is a whole different ballgame. We swore up and down that our kids would eat what we eat. But I’m (Cameron) going to be honest: all I wanted from the time I turned three till junior high was a hamburger. I’m talking breakfast-lunch-dinner. And I (Lauren) didn’t have a ton of food rules growing up. Crunch Berries for dinner? Sure! So, it’s been a conscious effort on our part. Our oldest daughter is downright picky, so it’s a matter of picking our spots. Our youngest will eat darn near anything, especially if we’re eating it.

What’s next for Nyme?  Any future plans or products?

We’re actually right in the middle of developing more products for the big kids! AKA adults. Kids came first but we didn’t forget about mom and dad. Since Cam and I already use the kid products we felt the need to come up with a line for adults. The first one will be the best natural, organic and Paleo body butter you’ve ever tried. And I (Lauren) say that because I’ve tried lotions, oils and everything in between for dry, itchy, eczema skin and stretch marks. Get ready people, because this isn’t for your kiddos! It’s decadent, made from natural oils and butters.

Do you ship internationally?

Absolutely! We ship to almost all international locations via FedEx.

Any words of wisdom or warning?  Anything I’ve missed?

It’s funny, we joke with our own parents about the volume of information out there now, not to mention the thousands of opinions. We know we’re not experts when it comes to kid care, and we don’t know many moms and dads who think they are. We just wanted to do what’s right for our family and happened to come upon some unique and very effective products. If we hadn’t our oldest daughter might have been on steroid creams for the first half of her life. So, if we’d offer any advice we’d say: do your homework and do what’s right for your family. Simple as that.

Answer: We formulate, manufacture and distribute all Nyme Organics skincare and teething jewelry products at our facility in Dallas-Fort Worth. We manufacture our organic cotton clothing in North Carolina from fabric knitted in South Carolina. We do not outsource or use any third-party manufacturing for skincare, clothing or teething jewelry.

Answer: We handcraft Nyme Organics skin care products in small batches with the freshest, highest quality organic ingredients so they do have a limited shelf life. In general, we recommend using Nyme Organics skincare products within (6) months of the original purchase date. It’s also best not to leave them on the shelf too long because the botanicals will lose strength.

Answer: Absolutely. While we designed Nyme Organics for babies and kids, they’re incredibly effective for adults too.

Answer: Right on each product page and on every label. Our manufacturing is 100% transparent, so we not only tell you what’s in each product but exactly “why” we carefully select these ingredients. You decide if they’re right for your family. We use only ingredients you know, like olive oil, coconut oil, lavender, marshmallow, mandarin, cocoa butter and chamomile.

Answer: Absolutely not. We make our skin care collection from the safest, purest, wild harvested ingredients you’ll find anywhere. When we say “all natural,” we mean “all” natural: 100% free of toxins, chemicals, metals, synthetics and dyes. The high-foaming lather of Bluebird Castile Soap comes from the high concentrate of coconut oil, which creates a more luxurious lather than any detergent.

Answer: No. All fragrances are 100% natural, derived from plant-based ingredients like Calendula and Chamomile flowers. We also use pure extracts and aromatherapy quality essential oils for their well-known healing properties.

Answer: Absolutely. The color, scent and texture of our products may vary slightly batch-to-batch. All of our ingredients are crop-based, so they may be affected by the growing season or harvest time. These variances are what make our natural products unique. And rest assured, no products become available until they pass our rigorous quality control standards.

Answer: Yes, Bun Glaze is completely safe for cloth diapering and will wash out cleanly, leaving no residue.

Answer: Bluebird is a fantastic mild body wash for anyone from newborn to 90-years-old, and many people use it as a gentle replacement for chemical-filled shampoos. But there are a few things to consider, especially for adult hair: Don’t use too much. Even though Bluebird is a simple vegetable oil-based soap, it’s still a powerful cleaner. Remember to pair it with an acidic conditioner, like apple cider vinegar with a 50% water dilution. Transitioning from a traditional shampoo/conditioner to Castile soap may take a couple weeks. Be patient. No castile soap is color safe so using it as a shampoo can lead to fading or spotting. Treated hair needs acidic products only (like shampoos) and soap, by nature, is not acidic. Experiment first. Everyone’s hair has its own personality and it reacts differently to different products.

Answer: Never. We partnered with PETA and signed their Statement of Assurance that we "do not conduct, contract out, or fund studies on animals in the development, manufacturing, testing, or marketing of our products, nor do we intend to do so." Same goes for our suppliers. That’s why you’ll find the Beauty Not Bunnies logo on all our skincare products. PETA also lists Nyme Organics in their Shopping Guide for Caring Consumers. This means we test everything on human volunteers, aka “us.”

Answer: Although our goal was to make as many vegan products as possible, we do use certified organic yellow beeswax to make Bun Glaze and On the Spot. We’ve tried to find a better certified organic, plant-based substitute for beeswax but there isn’t one that offers the same amazing qualities and skin benefits. Beeswax contains Vitamin A for normal cell development, has natural antibacterial properties and sunblock qualities, and forms a protective barrier against environmental impacts while keeping moisture in. Plant-based waxes like Candelilla or Carnauba are the only alternatives, but they offer few real skin benefits. They’re also brittle and tend to clump together, and that leads to an inferior product.

Answer: Nyme Organics is Certified Paleo by the Paleo Foundation. The only exception in our skincare line is Oatmeal Cookie Bath because it contains organic, gluten-free oat flour.

Answer: We don’t have any immediate plans to carry products other than the ones we create and make ourselves. This allows us to focus on the quality, consistency, health, safety and affordability of our items. On occasion, we do partner with other brands that share our philosophy on giveaways and charitable efforts.

Answer: Not at the moment, but we’re working on it. Check back soon.

Answer: All of our bottles, tops and pouches are and always will be completely BPA-free and most are manufactured in the USA. The Natural Kraft pouches we use for Oatmeal Cookie Bath pouches are manufactured in the USA from 60% renewable wood pulp.

Answer: Our packaging is “ridiculously green” thanks to a company we found in Colorado. It’s 100% recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and sustainable, thanks to a custom mix of 95% post-consumer waste and 5% post-industrial waste. We use NO new materials in our shipping boxes or padding.

Answer: Yes, for all orders over $100 in the continental U.S.

How do I return items shipped internationally?

Answer: Orders shipped internationally aren't eligible for free returns or merchandise exchanges. We will deduct return shipping and handling fees from your return credit. We also can’t refund any duties or taxes incurred.

About Us :

Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets.  Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.

100% of  Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications.  We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.

Certified Paleo logo Certified Paleo:

Each certification program has a different set of standards.  Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products.  Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified LogoGrain-Free Gluten-Free:

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues.  All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.

Keto Certified LogoKeto Certified:

The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation.  Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.

The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
