Organic Gemini
Don’t know what a TigerNuts are? That’s ok. About 1 in 10 people don’t know either.
TigerNuts are not nuts, but tubers, small root vegetables which comprised up to 80% of our Paleo ancestors’ diet around 2 million years ago. This ancient superfood originates from Africa. It is currently cultivated in West Africa & the Mediterranean. TigerNuts are the #1 source of Resistant Starch, a prebiotic fiber that resists digestion and becomes fuel for our probiotic bacteria. One ounce of TigerNuts has 40% of our daily recommended fiber! Learn More about Resistant Starch HERE.
Organic Gemini is a Brooklyn-based startup making healthful beverages and snacks. Their newest drink is called TigerNut Horchata. Horchata has been enjoyed for centuries on the shores of the Mediterranean. This authentic Spanish beverage has a rich cultural heritage. Celebrating a time-honored recipe from Valencia, their simple blend uses the best, hand-picked organic Tigernuts and is cold pressed to preserve their precious nutrients.

Geogre Papanastasatos and Mariam Kinkladze
About two years ago, Mariam & George were facing dire circumstances. A doctor diagnosed Mariam with ovarian cancer and told her that she would need to have one of her ovaries removed. After visiting the best specialists in New York, each of them confirmed that initial diagnosis. The most devastating part was that she would unlikely be able to have children.
George began to research alternative treatments, thinking that surgery might not be the only option. He found a study where women in similar situations were using alternative treatments and a raw food diet to find healing. Neither were particularly conscious of their diets and they were certainly skeptical of such a simple solution to a problem as profound as cancer. But they gave it a shot. It worked. Their son Lukas is living testament to the power of dietary changes.
From Mariam:
With the miraculous recovery that I made, and the overall improvements to our health, we developed a passion for holistic food, for food that is organic and has not been genetically modified, for raw, gluten-free and dairy-free foods. We decided that we needed to spread this learning to as many people as possible.
One of the foods that was essential in this journey was an ancient superfood known as a TigerNut. It is a root vegetable (not a nut) that originates from Northern Africa and the Mediterranean. TigerNuts are loaded with fiber in the form of Resistant Starch, a prebiotic that actually helps our bodies to develop probiotics. They are rich in iron, potassium, and other essential nutrients. A recent study by Oxford University revealed that TigerNuts made up to 80% of our Paleo ancestors’ diet. With everything they had learned along the journey, they were compelled to share this little tuber with the world.
Mariam and George created a company called Organic Gemini that uses TigerNuts as the centerpiece for many different types of products, including a beverage called Horchata, a gluten- free flour, a cold-pressed oil, and of course the raw organic TigerNuts themselves.
From Mariam:
Although TigerNuts, also known as chufa, are popular in different parts of the world, we are excited to introduce it to the US through these products. We are honored and humbled to be able to help other people experience this wonderful superfood so that they can reap the health benefits that we have experienced and continue to experience.
We' love to hear from you!

About Us :
Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets. Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.
Disclosures:
100% of Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications. We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.
Certified Paleo:
Each certification program has a different set of standards. Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products. Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.
Grain-Free Gluten-Free:
Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues. All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.
Keto Certified:
The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation. Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.
The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
