About the Founder
They say necessity is the mother of invention. We say mothers are the inventors of necessities.
For much of her professional life, Sequoia Cheney and her husband, Jack used art therapy to help prison inmates and the mentally ill to enrich and rehabilitate their lives. After years of service to others life threw a few lemons her way. She was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. She made the decision to harness the creative powers she used with others to reinvent everything she knew about nutrition to make her body whole again without traditional drug therapies. And it worked. Today she is medication free.
A natural teacher, Sequoia shared her newfound passion for health and an enriched lifestyle through sourcing and cooking whole, simple foods with others at cooking classes. She began experimenting with new combinations of whole, organic foods and voila! Coco-Roons were born.
Her students encouraged her to package and share her creations and at the age of 56 she began producing Coco-Roons out of a small commercial kitchen for local farmer’s markets and retailers. They were an instant hit. The business started growing so fast that Sequoia requested the help of her son Eric Hara, who was a respected Executive Chef in New York City at the time.
The rest, as they say, is history. The mother-son team expanded the brand to 4 lines of sweet, salty, healthy snacks to satisfy the needs and wants of snackers everywhere- salty or sweet, light or indulgent - all made with organic, non GMO, whole food ingredients to be gluten free, vegan, and nutrient-rich.
