With hard work, drive, and the passion to bring a healthy chicken snack to the world, Wilde has worked nonstop to bring you the first ever, high protein chip made from chicken, cassava root, and coconut oil.

Our Mission

To create indulgent and healthy snacks containing the best whole food and nutrient-dense ingredients and provide a guilt-free snack alternative to snackers who swapped snacks for a healthy lifestyle.

"Our chips are junk food for healthy people."
-Jason Wright, Wilde Co-Founder

2014

It all started out with a simple goal: make wholesome snacks you want to eat. Our founder, Jason Wright set out to make a delicious, meat-based protein bar to fuel his body through the long training days preparing for a marathon. Jason called his best friend, Derek Spors, who was a food innovator and just the right person to help him create the perfect product to fuel his training regime.

After exploring other protein snacks at natural food stores, he felt he and Derek had created a product that was even better than the meat-based protein brands he’d discovered on the shelf. As the child of a single mother who worked at the local textile factory, the value of hard work had been instilled in him and he decided to embark on his dream of being an entrepreneur.

2016

Those who know Jason well have dubbed him a “Wild Man” based upon his endless amounts of energy and never taking NO for an answer. From those bold qualities, Jason took the next huge step of founding his own company, and Wilde Brands was born.

While some say “Wilde” was inspired by Jason’s passion and high energy; Jason likes to say he choose “Wilde” because he felt it represented the simple ingredients and rich environment for which the company’s products are founded on. We like to think it’s both. In October of 2016, his product, Wilde Bars started hitting store shelves across the country in natural food retailers. Jason’s passion and quest to see Wilde on shelves at retailers had finally became a reality.

2017

Jason quickly found that following your dreams and passions do not always lead to success, and that people did not see the Wilde Bar through the same lens that he did. Competition was tough, and consumers were turning back to more traditional meat snacks like jerky and sticks in the summer of 2017. Jason had been in this situation before in 2007 when he founded a local granola company called “FEED Granola” out of his 6th floor walk-up apartment in New York City.

As FEED was starting to establish itself in 2008, the US experienced one of the worst economic meltdowns since the great depression and lot of small business, including FEED were forced to close their doors. Jason remembered this time and didn’t want to see Wilde experience the same struggles, so he decided to focus his energy on a product he had been obsessing over for more than a year.

2018

More than 2 years after launching the Wilde Bar, Wilde Chips hit store shelves in June. When starting this new product journey in 2016, there was no such thing as chip-making equipment for the meat industry. With hard work, drive and a passion to bring these chips to the world, Jason and Derek have worked nonstop to bring you the first ever, high protein chip made from chicken, cassava root and coconut oil.

Initial response from regional testing have them pegged as one of the most innovative snacks to ever launch in this space. Wilde was acknowledged as one of the coolest products from Natural Products Expo West 2018 (out of more than 3,500 exhibiting companies). For Paleo followers and CrossFit fans, wholesome food lovers and moms wanting a better snack for their kids, Wilde Chips will change the way you think about snacks.

What exactly ARE Wilde Chicken Chips?

Answer: Plain and simple, Wilde Chicken Chips are a delicious, healthier replacement for potato chips – and made from just three simple ingredients: humanely raised chicken, gluten-free tapioca flour and healthy coconut oil! Once we create a perfectly crispy chip, it gets the tried-and-true flavor treatment, using only the best in seasonings. Simply pick your favorite from the list (sea salt and vinegar, barbeque, jalapeño, and buffalo) and crunch away!

How do Wilde Chicken Chips differ from other chicken chips?

Answer: In this case, there ARE no other chicken chips! Wilde is the first to market for this new food category. Won't you try it and find out for yourself how tasty healthy can be?

Are Wilde Chicken Chips gluten free?

Answer: Every crunchy bite! Tapioca flour is made from the pulp from the cassava root, also known as manioc or yucca. The white powder made from the pulp is frequently used in gluten-free cooking as a thickener for sauces and as a source of crunch in baking and frying. Together, our three gluten-free ingredients – chicken, tapioca flour and coconut oil – work together to create a satisfying crunch in every bite. To be sure you feel comfortable with Wilde Chicken Chips, our products are Gluten Free Certified through GFCO. To learn more about their certification process, check out www.gfco.org

I’m Paleo. Are Wilde Chicken Chips good for my diet?

Answer: Every bag of Wilde Chicken Chips is Certified Paleo, an accreditation issued by the well-respected Paleo Foundation. They analyzed every ingredient in our Chicken Chips and confirmed that each is paleo compliant and that we met each of the program requirements. They’re the real Paleo deal.

Is Wilde certified or audited by third parties?

Answer: Wilde Chicken Chips has been certified by several trade and health organizations. Wilde has been Non-GMO Project Verified (by the Non-GMO Project); Paleo Certified (by the Paleo Foundation), and Certified Gluten-Free (by the Gluten Intolerance Group).

Isn’t coconut oil a saturated fat?

Answer: Yes, but only in name. Meaning, it’s nothing like the saturated fat you might get from, say, a nice juicy steak. Coconut oil is a plant-based saturated fat rich in medium chain triglycerides (MCT) and it’s very different from the saturated fats your doctor warns you about. In fact, coconut oil may actually help to protect against heart disease and stroke while lowering your LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol. We feel very confident that the powerful antioxidants and MCTs in coconut oil are the perfect, healthy “crisper” for Wilde Chicken Chips.

Do Wilde Chicken Chips expire?

Answer: Sadly, yes, so crunch a bag today. Each bag has an 11-month shelf-life. Simply look for the “Best by” date printed on the bottom of the bag. And an open bag will remain fresh for about two days, if you don’t devour them in one sitting!

How is tapioca flour gluten-free?

Answer: Tapioca flour is a flour in name only! It’s actually a powder made from the pulp from the cassava root, also known as manioc or yucca. Tapioca flour is a common ingredient in gluten-free cooking – it creates the crunch that makes Wilde Chicken Chips so satisfying!

What kind of fat do you fry the chips in?

Answer: Great chips with a satisfying crunch require a healthy fat that doesn’t break down at high temperatures. To make Wilde Chicken Chips as healthy as possible, we use coconut oil, which has a naturally high smoke point, so it’s stable throughout the cooking process.

What happens to the used coconut oil?

Answer: We care about the environment, so the coconut oil we use gets a second life as renewable energy! We’ve partnered with a production facility that produces renewable energy from food waste, particularly coconut oil. In fact, our very own coconut oil helps to power the plant that creates the chips. A perfect, satisfying circle, if you will!

Are Wilde Chicken Chips just fried chicken skin?

Answer: Not even a little bit. Wilde Chicken Chips are made with 100% premium cuts of chicken meat, not skin.

Why don't you bake your chips?

Answer: Our goal was to make a chip with the signature crunch you know and love, and we couldn’t get the texture we wanted by baking it. That said, our chips are not “deep fried” or “kettle cooked." Think of them as almost pan fried in a very small amount of coconut oil, which results in the thin and crispiness we ultimately set out to achieve. There are also health benefits to using coconut oil instead of baking the chips. Coconut oil contains healthy fats and nutrients that won't disappear since the oil can withstand the high cooking temperatures.

What is cassava root?

Answer: The cassava root, often compared to large yams, is sweet, starchy and nut-flavored. It's naturally gluten-free with a low glycemic index. When moisture is removed from the cassava root either by evaporation or squeezing it out after being ground, you're left with tapioca flour. Tapioca flour is one of the three ingredients that make Chicken Chips.

Where can I buy Wilde Chicken Chips?

Answer: Today you can find them at Whole Foods Markets, Sprouts, Amazon, Barefoot Provisions and Thrive Market, plus right here on our site. We're always adding more locations, so check out our Store Locator to see the most current locations. Have a store suggestion for us? Send us an email and ask the store manager to carry Wilde Chips.

I can’t find your meat bars.

Answer: While it was a tough decision, we stopped production on our meat-based protein bars in 2016 so that we could focus exclusively on our innovative new product, Chicken Chips.

Are the chickens you use humanely raised?

Answer: Absolutely! We’ve taken a thoughtful approach to every tasty ingredient, and humanely raised chickens are better for the animal, the environment and, frankly, the soul. Our products are GAP (Global Animal Partnership) Step 2 certified, meaning the chickens we use are raised on farms with improved living conditions and animal welfare practices. Learn more at the Global Animal Partnership website.

Is Amazon an authorized distributor?

Answer: Yes, you are welcome to purchase our products on Amazon. Additional authorized online distributors include Barefoot Provisions and Thrive Market.

I’m hungry! How soon will I get my order?

Answer: Most orders ship the day they're received, and all orders are processed within 24 business hours. Check your inbox for a "Shipped Chips" email from us, including your order tracking number. The nitty gritty: Orders placed after 12:00PM ET will be processed and shipped the following business day. Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets.  Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.

Disclosures:

100% of  Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications.  We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.

Certified Paleo logo Certified Paleo:

Each certification program has a different set of standards.  Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products.  Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified LogoGrain-Free Gluten-Free:

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues.  All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.

Keto Certified LogoKeto Certified:

The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation.  Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.

The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
