Halo Top: Low Carb Keto Certification for…Ice Cream?

Halo Top: Low Carb Keto Certification for…Ice Cream?

June 26, 2020 0 Comments 813 views

When trying to cut down on carbohydrates or sugar consumption, ice cream is one of the easiest pitfalls. Although we know that the majority of ice cream products on the market are loaded with sugar, the temptation of that cool, sweet flavor on a hot summer day is often too much of an enticement. For people who follow the Keto diet, just a small scoop of regular ice cream is usually enough to put them over their daily carbohydrate limit. One regular scoop of ice cream can contain anywhere between 17 and 22 grams of carbohydrates.

Many of the commercial ice cream products sold by national brands and ice cream shops across the country also contain an extremely long list of ingredients and additives. That single scoop of caramel pistachio ice cream might include an ingredient list that, besides the basics of milk, sugar, and cream, also contains artificial flavors, carrageenan, propylene glycol, corn syrup solids (i.e., more sugar/carbohydrates), soybean oil… shall we continue?

While the list of low carb & Keto Certified snacks continues to grow day by day (check out this list of our certified brands), are people who adhere to low carb diets and lifestyles expected to simply disregard and overcome those cravings for ice cream?

Halo Top, the well known and respected ice cream brand acquired by Wells Enterprises, just recently received Keto Certification for several flavors of their signature ice cream products. Halo Top has long been recognized as a leader in low sugar ice cream products, their Keto series flavor lineup impressively only contains between 5 and 10 grams of carbohydrates per pint. Even if you mindlessly devour an entire pint while binge-watching your favorite Netflix show, you will most likely still be well under your carbohydrate limit for the day.

The official Keto Certification requires that Halo Top ice cream products do not contain greater than 5-10 grams of net carbohydrates per serving. Even more impressively, the Keto Certification also certifies that the certified Halo Top flavors contain absolutely no artificial colorings, artificial sweeteners, or artificial preservatives.

Among the flavors that acquired Keto Certification, consumers can enjoy Keto White Chocolate Macadamia, Keto Caramel Butter Pecan, Keto Banana Cream Pie, Keto Peanut Butter Chocolate, Keto Chocolate Cheesecake, Keto Berry Swirl, and Keto Jelly Donut. While not Keto Certified, the company also markets a dairy-free ice cream made from coconut milk.

Consumers today are increasingly aware of the nutritional value of the foods they eat. As more and more health food brands begin to manufacture and market healthier snacks that don’t sacrifice on flavor, the ingredient list printed on the back of the ice cream carton is often the most important part of the product packaging.

In the specific case of the ice cream market, one study recently found that by 2025, the organic ice cream market is estimated to surpass 1.2 billion USD in annual revenue. In August of 2017, Halo Top was recognized as the top-selling pint of ice cream in the United States, mostly due to consumer appreciation and recognition for its dedication to low sugar content and relatively lower calories per serving. With their new line of Keto Certified, delicious ice cream flavors, Halo Top is well-positioned to continue to capitalize on firm industry trends pushing for healthier, low carb dessert options.
