Paleo Powder:  “Seasoning Back to the Basics”

About Paleo Powder Seasonings

Born and raised in small town Texas, I entered high school eager to take on the “Friday night lights.” I was a big kid, and I found my home where big was the name of the game – the offensive line. Growing up in the Lone Star State, I loved to eat BBQ and fixin’s like all good Texans, and playing football rewarded me for having a Texas-sized appetite. After high school, I earned a spot on The University of Texas at El Paso football team. All this to say, Texas, Texas football and Texas food are a part of my DNA.

Unfortunately that DNA meant my Texas-sized appetite stuck with me even after my days on the football field were long gone. By my late 20s, I weighed more than 300 pounds, and my unhealthy eating habits were starting to have real, undesirable effects on my life. In 2010, I started doing CrossFit and quickly saw improvements in my fitness level, but I still needed to address my eating habits. I chose to follow a Paleo lifestyle in addition to being a regular at the CrossFit Round Rock box, and within a year, I lost more than 50 pounds. I had found a lifestyle that helped me drop fat and gain muscle…while still allowing me to enjoy Texas BBQ.

In fact, it was that love for Texas BBQ that led me to create Paleo Powder. I had been competing in BBQ cook-off competitions around Texas since I was 20, so I was the go-to guy when my CrossFit box needed someone to man the grill for our gym get-together. However, this time my BBQ had to be Paleo-friendly. As I looked at the seasoning blends I typically used in my competitions for flavor, I realized all of them contained MSG, gluten or some unhealthy ingredient or additive, so I was going to have make my own. Fortunately, I had learned a thing or two about seasoning from all my veteran Texas cook-off competitor mentors over the years, so I had a leg up on how to get good flavor.

The CrossFit Paleo BBQ was a success, and the owner of the gym thought the seasoning was so good she suggested I start selling it…which is exactly what I did, and Paleo Powder Seasoning was born.

To earn some “street cred” for Paleo Powder Seasonings, I started using my new seasoning in my BBQ competitions. The highest honor came in 2011 when my chicken seasoned with Paleo Powder earned second place out of more than 200 teams at the National Champion Barbecue Cookoff in Meridian, Texas.

Beyond the BBQ, Paleo Powder offered an easy way to make all the healthy meals I cooked at home taste as great as they were for me, and I was hoping to bring that same convenience and flavor to the entire Paleo community.

As the Paleo lifestyle grew in popularity, so did the demand forPaleo Powder Seasonings, but we’ve grown beyond that core Paleo market, too. Paleo Powder is simply a great tasting, versatile seasoning that offers great flavor with none of the disruptive additives found in most seasoning blends. Paleo Powder Seasoning exists to provide the average home cook, a one-stop, healthy seasoning to enhance the flavor of any dish.

With a growing demand for Paleo Powder Original, we eventually launched new blends: Paleo Powder Pink, made with Himalayan pink salt, Paleo Powder Salt Free, Paleo Powder Herbed and Paleo Powder AIP.

All of our products are Certified Paleo, Whole30 Approved and GO TEXAN.

What makes our seasoning Paleo?

Answer: Unlike most seasoning blends, Paleo Powder seasonings do not contain unhealthy ingredients (like sugar) or disruptive additives (like silicon dioxide used to prevent clumping) and are produced in a facility where there is no chance of wheat, milk, soy or other non-Paleo contamination.

What's the difference between each of your blends?

Answer: We created all our blends to be all purpose blends so you don't have to buy or store a dozen different bottles. Instead, we offer all purpose blends that meet a variety of dietary/lifestyle preferences/restrictions. All of our blends are Paleo, but within that, you can choose a blend, with iodized salt, a blend with Himalayan Pink Salt, a blend with no salt or an AIP-friendly blend.

How hot/spicy are the blends with cayenne pepper in them?

Answer: Our Original, Pink and Salt Free blends definitely have some kick to them, but it doesn't overwhelm the overall flavor. If you like to bring heat, add a hearty sprinkle (or three) to whatever your cooking, but if you can't handle too much start out with just a dash. We've never had anyone complain that any of our blends are too spicy!

How are your blends processed?

Answer: All of our spices and herbs are non-irradiated, contain no anti-caking agents, no artificial colors, and no MSG. Our spices and herbs are all natural and pure as defined by The Pure Food and Drug Act. In addition, our ingredients are cleaned without the use of chemicals, continually inspected by trained staff and milled to exact specifications to ensure purity, consistency, color, and taste.

About Us :

Established in 2010, The Paleo Foundation was first organized for the purpose of improving the tolerability of the paleo diet, and to help adherents easily identify products that met its basic tenets.  Since then, thousands of products have been certified through the Certified Paleo, Keto Certified, and lab -tested Grain-Free Gluten-Free certification programs.

100% of  Paleo Foundation revenue is generated through certifications.  We do not accept donations, corporate sponsorships, or financially benefit from the sales of any certified products, product giveaways, or partnerships with industry contacts or retailers for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of an impartial certification standard.

Certified Paleo logo Certified Paleo:

Each certification program has a different set of standards.  Certified Paleo is the Paleo Foundation’s first, most popular, and highest level of certification for Paleo-compliant products.  Certified Paleo Products are products that contain Paleo ingredients, but may have some 21st-century processing or packaging methods allowing for shelf stability.

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified LogoGrain-Free Gluten-Free:

Grain Free Gluten Free Certified products are gluten-free and do not contain any grains of gliadin competitive residues.  All Grain-Free Gluten-Free products have undergone two rounds of audits, including lab tests, and a final review to become approved for the Grain-free Gluten-free Certified Program.

Keto Certified LogoKeto Certified:

The ketogenic diet is a restrictive, demanding diet that can be difficult to maintain, and tolerability of the ketogenic diet is the single most important factor limiting individual acceptance for initiation.  Therefore, improving the tolerability of the ketogenic diet is crucial to preventing diet discontinuation, warranting further investigation into methods for improving palatability, improving the availability and convenience of foods that are compliant with the ketogenic diet, as well as addressing cultural and social acceptance.

The Keto Diet product market may be in a unique position to improve tolerability, especially in social and cultural environments that typically feature carbohydrate-rich “special occasion” types of foods. In 2016, the Paleo Foundation launched the world's first Keto Certified program for products with standards that were developed for adherence to a classical ketogenic diet.
