Foster Farms Smart Crust ™: a low-carb Alternative for America’s Favorite Culinary Indulgence

Foster Farms Smart Crust ™: a low-carb Alternative for America’s Favorite Culinary Indulgence

July 2, 2020 0 Comments 700 views

Here is the good news: a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) recently found that between 1999 and 2016 the average proportion of daily calorie intake from sugar and refined grains decreased by 3 percent. The bad news? The same study also found that low-quality carbs continue to account for upwards of 42 percent of all daily calorie intake.

In recent years, Americans are finally beginning to wake up to the fact that refined grains, added sugars, and excess carbohydrates are the main culprits for the myriad health crises affecting the nation, including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. The 2018 Annual Food and Health Survey released by the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation finds that ever more Americans are blaming carbs and sugars for their weight gain problems. One in three people considers sugar to be the main cause of weight gain while carbs rank second with 25 percent of respondents claiming that excess carb intake was responsible for pushing up the scales.

The study also confirmed the increasing popularity in dietary trends that restrict carbohydrates. Seven percent of respondents claimed to be following the Paleo diet, five percent were followers of the Whole30 diet, and three percent of people were adherents to the Keto diet.

Despite that knowledge, however, most Americans consider that there is a genuine lack of low carb alternatives for the dietary patterns that we have become accustomed to. For example, no matter how dedicated one might be to reducing daily carb intake, resisting a craving for a fresh-baked pizza certainly takes a strong will.

Foster Farms, the California-based and family-owned and operated company specializing in fresh, all-natural chicken and turkey products free of preservatives, additives, or injected sodium enhancers, recently released an innovative product that will certainly help millions of people successfully cope with those irresistible pizza cravings.

Foster Farms Smart Crust ™ is a low-carb, high-protein, Keto Certified pizza base made from a unique combination of chicken breast, egg whites, and cheese. Each individual pizza base has just two grams of carbs while packing in an impressive 44 grams of protein.

Jennifer Corsiglia-Keim, Marketing Director for Foster Farms says that “we know that eating healthy and cutting carbs is something more consumers are trying to do, including looking for gluten-free choices. Finding delicious low carb options for foods we crave isn’t always easy. With Foster Farms Smart Crust ™, you get everything you love about pizza but without the carbs. This is pure pizza joy instead of pizza guilt.”

Low carb, keto diets are no longer simply a niche dietary trend for weight loss.  Today, more and more consumers are beginning to demand healthier food products that reduce or eliminate all together low-quality carbs and hidden sugars. Amazon´s low carb grocery and gourmet food page has well over 2,000 different products being marketed by hundreds of different brands, many of which have begun business just within the past couple of years.

While many of these products are specialty items tailored towards people looking for the newest, exotic superfood to hit the market, the Foster Farms Smart Crust ™ shows that healthier, low carb diets can coexist with the typical meals that define the culinary traditions and habits of millions of people.

The Foster Farms frozen pizza crust is currently being sold at major food retailers such as Kroger, Albertsons, and Safeway. Next month, Foster Farms will also launch a store locator on their website to help consumers find the nearest store that carries the Foster Farms’ Smart Crust ™.
